Alexander McCall Smith's New Book

Today I was excited to learn that the webpage Telegraph, is promoting a new project by Alexander McCall Smith (author of No 1 Ladies Detective Agency). The author is writing an online novel on the Telegraph site, called Corduroy Mansions, with a new chapter written each day.

The project started in September, and will finish in February. You can catch up online at www.telegraph.co.uk/onlinenovel.

Alexander McCall Smith is one of the best authors that I have discovered in the past few years. His writing is intelligent and witty, and usually involves bits of wisdom, philosophy and mysteries to be solved. I am not normally a mystery novel reader, but reading one of his books is more like having a good conversation with a friend (and of course you will learn all of the neighborhood gossip from that friend).

I also learned today that the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series has been filmed as a TV series with HBO. I know that the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series is very popular, but they are the only Alexander McCall Smith books I haven't read yet. I've been saving them to read at a later date. I don't know it will make sense to anyone else, but sometimes if I really like an author I will set aside some of their books to read later, so that I can savor them properly. It makes them more of a treat that way.

Alexander McCall Smith's new online novel, Corduroy Mansions, has been running for a few weeks, and it's easy to catch up. You can read the chapters on the site, as an rss feed or email update, as a downloadable widget, or you can follow the project on Twitter www.twitter.com/corduroymansion.

I know that I am looking forward to reading this newest book by Alexander McCall Smith.

Yes, thanks for the heads up. He is such a great author. I just found him this year. Loved the Isabella Dalhousie Mysteries. And I don't usually like mysteries either. I will have to check this out.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today and entering my contest! Alexander McCall Smith is one of my favorites also. The one series of his that I have read is The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. And I agree with you about his books not really being considered a mystery, even though there are little mysteries throughout. My book club has been reading one of these a year and we all absolutely love these books. I am definitely going to have to check out the on-line novel and share it with my other book clubbers! Thanks for sharing!
