The Sunday Salon - July 19

This past week has been a very busy one. My oldest has been participating in track this summer and his first track meet was Wednesday night. He's been participating for three years, and this is the first year that he placed in every event (although they give participation ribbons to everyone). He got fourth in frisbee throw (the kids version of discus), fifth in long jump, and second in the 50M run.

While we were at the track meet my husband was in Canada for a business meeting. He had a bit of unusual excitement on his trip. The man that he was sitting next to on the plane got asked by some teens to give his autograph, and my husband noted that his name was Bruce Greenwood. Evidently my husband chatted with him during the flight, but had no clue who he was at the time. Later he looked him up and found that he played Christopher Pike in the latest Star Trek film.

I thought it was really cool that he got to sit next to Captain Pike, um, I mean Bruce Greenwood. Unfortunately he didn't get his autograph. He did say that he was reading the script for his next movie during the flight - it's a Canadian horror flick called Cell 213.

In other news, we added a new piece of furniture to our house this week. You can see from the above photo just how enthusiastic the cat is about my picture taking.

In the past two days he has completely destroyed the hanging cat toy. It's a bare plastic tube with a little pathetic hairy tail now.

It's always nice when you buy your animals something (like a semi-expensive cat condo) and they actually play with it.

Today I'll be reading:

I know I won't finish both books, but I hope to read a little bit from each book today.

Reviewed last week:

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Saffron Dreams by Shaila Abdullah

Read but not yet reviewed:

Fragment by Warren Fahy
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
We Take This Man by Candice Dow & Daaimah S. Poole
The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall

I'm currently reading:

Whatever You Do, Don't Run by Peter Allison
Always Looking Up by Michael J. Fox
Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson

Abandoned:

Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman - He has some intriguing stories in this book, but I'm just not in the mood to be reading dark tales right now.

Well that little stray who warmed himself into your heart is just so permanently a part of your family and heart now... huh? I can tell you just LOVE your kittie! It makes me smile.

Glad the boys did good and hubby had the Star Trek experience. Sounds like fun!

All in all, sounds like a good week so far!

Oooh! That's cute! I've been wanting to buy a "semi-expensive cat condo" for my cat but I'm so afraid he'll just look at it and say "Really??" and go back to sleeping on the bed!

Congratulations to your son! And how neat that your husband was sitting next to Bruce Greewood during his flight. I've seen the movie, but I bet I wouldn't have recognized him either. I'm so bad about remembering faces from movies.

Aren't those cat trees great? I wish they weren't so expensive though. We have a tall one and a medium sized one for the cats and they love them.

I hope you have a great week, Alyce!

Your boys are so cute Alyce!

Love the cat condo. They're fun to watch when they're on those things. I love how he turned away from the camera. Buddy will do that sometimes too. Too funny!

Have a great week Alyce!

Cute kids. :) So you gave up on Fragile Things... that book is a tome. I'm happy all my books for the Take a Chance Challenge have been pretty short so far.
