The Sunday Salon - November 8

Today I will be just taking it easy at home because my youngest son is not feeling well (has some sort of cold or flu) and needs to rest. On days like these I never know how much reading I will actually get done because I could end up waiting on him hand and foot and entertaining him, or he could end up watching videos all day.

One of the things I miss about being a kid is the opportunity to just crash on the couch when you don't feel well, and have your parents take care of you. When you're a mom you just don't get to drop everything like that very often (although I have to say that my husband is wonderful about staying home from work if he can when I'm sick).

I took this photo of my cat Tiger a few days before we got our new cat Midnight. Tiger seemed very sure that I had purchased this large plush pillow for him. He gave me a lot of dirty looks when I made him move so that I could put a pillow case on it (a pillow case which I sewed on the spur of the moment by putting two regular sized pillow cases together - a feat I was very proud of considering my sewing skills are almost non-existent). Oh, and the pillow wasn't for the cat, it was for me. It was on sale, and I've been wanting to have another large pillow around the house.

Today I'll be finishing up Art and Upheaval: Artists on the World's Frontlines by William Cleveland, which I'm reading as part of the Green Books Campaign.

Reviewed in last week:

Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant
Surviving Paradise by Peter Rudiak-Gould

Finished in the last week:

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown

Still waiting to be reviewed:

Emma, Volume 8 by Kaoru Mori
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
Touching the Void by Joe Simpson
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
Wicked Will by Bailey MacDonald
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

As you can see I still have a lot of books left to review that I read during the read-a-thon. I think it will take me a few more weeks to catch up completely.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having issues getting books reviewed! I'm waiting for a rainy day when I can just sit and get them done!

There is something so comforting in being able to push everything aside and mother our babies when they aren't feeling well. Unfortunately, when we get sick, we don't get to lay on the couch and be waited on! Have a great Sunday!

Hope your child is better!

Hitchikers Guide is one of my all time favorites. Years ago when I first read it it was the first frivilous, humorous book I had read. I found that I loved it. I still seek out humorous novels. So I hope you liked it!

I agree about how great it was when you didn't feel well as a kid to have the special treatment. How nice that you give your kids the same thing!

I remember those childhood days of being waited on! Now I have to wait on myself! LOL.

I hope your son starts feeling better soon! I don't at all miss being minded and waited on and got food - I get snarly and mean when people hover over me when I'm sick. I want to be left alone. I do miss having my parents give me permission to be sick though; since I hardly ever get sick, I never know if I'm sick enough to lie around in bed and drink ginger ale. :P

Having a sick child slows me down and that's a good thing. Hope you get a chance to relax, too!

Hope your son feels better. It's so hard on us parents when the kids aren't well. I worry about them so much. I'm sure you do as well.

BTW... I am also participating in the Green Books Campaign. Can't wait to read your review.

I hope your son is feeling better. I had a dreadful review week, excellent plans, that never made it to fruition. Your cat is gorgeous and I have Sacred Hearts on my TBR list.
If you get a chance, my Salon is here: www.rundpinne.com/2009/11/week-could-have-gone-better-sunday.html

The first time I realized the full-time nature of being a mom was when my eldest was about two and I got sick. My husband had to work and I had no one else to call on. I had to camp out in the least dangerous room in the house, shut off all the other rooms, and let my kid roam around while I prayed that my husband would come home soon.

I also have trouble giving myself permission to stay home sick. My husband is one of those guys who sucks it up and goes to work NO MATTER WHAT. I always feel like he is looking at me funny if I use a sick day, so I stopped taking them.

I miss that aspect of being a kid too!!! Who takes care of a sick mom? I've not been feeling all that great myself lately and I wish I could just sleep the day away ... alas, that is not meant to be.

Hope the kiddo is feeling better. Oh to be able to just rest completely when one is sick... can't imagine it.. sigh..

Have a good week. Art and Upheaval sounds great.
